Looking for an alternative to the traditional flu shot? Try The Good Witch’s Brew.
Next time you have the cold or flu, how would you like to stay in your sweet bed to rest instead of going to the doctor? If you like the sound of that, then you might like to try brewing your own powerful healing elixir. It is potent, easy to make, and works fast…
There are countless ways to treat yourself at home with natural antibiotics. And, today I’d like to zero in on an easy way you can use fermented veggies to make your own Rx antibiotics.
It’s called Fire Cider
Traditional Fire Cider takes 3-4 weeks to brew. You’ll want to make it ahead of time and have it handy for when you need it. Fire Cider is very spicy and strong so if you can’t handle a kick, then essential oils or MMS might be a better fit for you.
There are different variations of this cider and below is my version, I call it The Good Witch’s Brew. I’ve customized this recipe over the years and I’ve found this to be the most well rounded and potent.
First, use Organic
I’m NOT a “nazi” when it comes to organic produce. However, with any Fire Cider, you’ll want to purchase organic.
Here’s why – plants protect themselves and stay alive by ingesting THEIR own life force. THEIR life force is what HEALS us. Pesticides reduce (if not kill) the plant’s natural ability to keep itself alive and will in turn reap a weak brew for you.
You want the life force of the plants to be intact if you want a tonic that actually works.
Next, here are your ingredients and why they are in there:
- Couple pieces of fresh raw organic turmeric root – I use turmeric for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits plus it increases antioxidant capacity of cells (rough chop and leave skin on)
- 1 organic onion for Vitamin C and more antioxidants (rough chop leave skin on)
- 3-4inch chunk fresh raw organic ginger because it warms the body from within making you sweat the toxins out plus it kills bacteria (skin and chop)
- 3-4inch chunk fresh raw organic horseradish to clear mucous from the sinuses and respiratory system plus it increases white blood cells (leave skin on and rough chop)
- 4 of the spiciest fresh organic peppers you can find such as habanero, serrano, jalapeño, and/or African bird because they help clear congestion and lungs (chop stems off and slice)
- At least 10 cloves of garlic because it is a blood purifier (rough chop and leave skin on)
- 32oz apple cider vinegar (Bragg is what I use)
- And lastly a big glass jar with lid.
Then…
Put all ingredients into a glass jar (not plastic) and then airtight cover. Put in a dark cool cupboard for 3-4 weeks. During the first week you should check on it everyday and give it a soft shake.
Finally…
After 3-4 weeks, use cheesecloth to strain out all the chunks and put the liquid back into the jar.
Voila! You have The Good Witch’s Brew at your fingertips for up to 3 months. Keep stored in a cool dark place (like a cabinet) away from the stove. It should look a little something like this when you’re finished:
Dosage:
2 tablespoons 2x a day at the ONSET of a cold and continue everyday until symptoms are completely gone, just as you would with any antibiotic.
Witchy Tip: I️ mix a little raw honey and shoot it like I would a shot of whiskey and chase with a (tiny) sip of water.
NOTE: when I️ say take at the onset, I️ mean right when you feel that scratchy tickle in your throat or extreme fatigue during the middle of the day.
If you catch it early enough you should be able to stop the cold in its tracks. However, once it crosses your first line of defense – you’re bound to get sick and you’ll just need to let the sickness run it’s course while the cider supports your system.
As long as you’re taking this tonic consistently you should not get worse.
Try to focus on health and well-being instead of your symptoms and you will heal faster. It if your symptoms continue to last more than 3-4 days, then see a doctor.
